ORANGE, Ohio

Theft: Chagrin Boulevard

Police responded to Mooney’s Towing & Auto Repair June 17 on a felony report of a theft that occurred eight days prior. The manager reported that he and another employee were working on a Tesla near the northeast gas pump around noon on June 9.

During the repair, they removed a tire from the car and rolled it into the shop, leaving a Snap-On impact power wrench unattended. When they returned a short time later, the wrench -- listed at $1,009.95 -- was missing.

Management said they would be willing to pursue felony theft charges if police could identify a suspect.

Traffic stop: Harvard Road

A patrol officer on Lander Road noticed a car heading in the other direction at a high rate of speed on June 20 shortly before midnight and turned around to follow.

Radar showed the car going 61 mph in a 35-mph zone, with the driver failing to signal a left turn onto westbound Harvard Road.

Turning on the cruiser’s emergency lights, the driver, a Cleveland man, slowed down but continued another half-mile with some weaving before pulling over.

He appeared very relaxed and even distracted, with slurred speech, telling the officer he’d had nothing to drink. He also said he would rather not do field sobriety tests at that time.

Arrested on suspicion of impaired driving, he told police he had been on a number of medications since breaking his fibula in the past week but declined to elaborate unless his lawyer was present.

Appearing more talkative and awake in the booking area of the Solon jail -- after seeming to nod off in the cruiser -- he also refused to provide a urine sample.

Orange police also cited him for speeding and a turn signal violation and he was later released on a $1,500 personal bond.

Hit confirmation: Richmond Road

Beachwood police reported they were out on the night of June 19 with a Cleveland woman who was showing an active warrant from Orange on two counts of aggravated menacing dating back to July 2019.

At that time, she had threatened to kill two former co-workers at the Extended Stay South hotel, both of whom had taken out temporary protection orders (TPO’s), against her.

One of them she had never met. But in repeated phone calls to the hotel at the time, the suspect said that did not matter and that she was going to kill her anyway.

Officers transferred custody and took her to the Solon jail, notifying one victim was notified of her arrest, while the other could not be reached.
